Hank Stebbins steps into interim CSO role for MNUFC - with an almost impossible degree of difficulty
This is probably not how Hank Stebbins wanted to get a top job in MLS - but now, the interim Chief Soccer Officer has to steer the MNUFC ship.
Hank Stebbins probably dreamed of someday becoming the chief soccer officer of an MLS club.
Not like this, though.
The secondary transfer window - Minnesota's best opportunity to add to the squad for the 2026 stretch run, and probably for the 2027 spring season as well - closes a week from today. But that didn't stop now-former Loons CSO Khaled El-Ahmad from abruptly quitting, late last week, leaving Stebbins to take the reins.
And to put a bow on it, Stebbins' first act as interim CSO was to rush to the hospital, where his wife delivered their second child.
I asked if it was possible to come up with worse timing for a transition like this. "I'm sure if we sat here and put our minds to it for awhile, we could figure it out," he said, diplomatically.
