Cardboard Soccer, Part 3: Forgotten backwater... or hidden gem?
Topps hasn't always given all that much attention to MLS cards. Here now, a brief history of their attempts.
Maybe you, like me, are an old person. Maybe you remember, with nostalgia or even fondness, when Topps made only one or two sets of baseball cards every year.
As we've covered, you don't get that anymore. You'll find set after set for sports that you probably thought of as, effectively, niche pursuits. Topps has released six separate UFC sets this year. They're up to four for Formula One. Not to be outdone, Upper Deck has released four golf sets (and Panini, God bless their broken, misguided hearts, even put out two for LIV Golf.)
But if you crave simplicity, run your finger down the list of leagues and sports, and eventually you'll get to Major League Soccer - a league that Topps, usually, appears to have forgotten about.
